Now as I post this I'm in Brussels, we're just staying a couple of days before we head to France. We haven't really done much so far so just a few pics.

The bottom one is the famous "Mannequen pis" the little peeing boy!

Haarlem

We went for the day to a little Dutch town that's maybe a bit more traditional than Amsterdam.
It has its own working windmill that we went up.

The second picture is Patrick on the wing of the windmill at the top and the third is me being hoisted into the air unwillingly by our mental Dutch guide!

Amsterdam...I never knew you so well

So we spent five days in Amsterdam, a city of canals, carnality and corruption; and I loved it!
We were staying in what I think was quite a residential area, in a small Dutch house, with really steep stairs. We'll soon be fit after those.

We went on a relaxing canal boat tour and saw some interesting sights.

Also we got a chance to visit the rijksmuseum, Holland's most famous museum and I have to say it was disappointing, quite small considering it is one of the national galleries and the only great piece they have is The night watch by Rembrandt ---> http://www.rembrandtpainting.net/graphics/night_watch.jpg

We got some good pictures of The milk maid by Vermeer too

We were in Dam Square and Leidespein mostly as Amsterdam revolves around its main squares or pleins. Dam Square:

Got our Bags

Finally got around to going to the great outdoors today and got our packs and other bits. This is the bag I went for its not really really comfy but it'll do. I wanted to go as light as I could so 55 litres isn't bad. I'll have to fiddle with it tomorrow to adjust it and make it a bit more comfortable.
I also had to get those horrible sports sandals, but for this trip it's function over fashion so I had to bite the bullet and just get some but at €99, they're not exactly cut-price. We ended up spending €500 in the great outdoors today, between the two of us.
This isn't going to be cheap!
